GOP Strategist: Gillibrand is Vulnerable
By Kevin J. Ryan
Whitestone, N.Y.- Dick Wadhams, veteran Republican strategist and campaign manager for Senate hopeful Wendy Long, said that Democratic incumbent Senator Kristen Gillibrand is “vulnerable.”
Wadhams pointed to a recent Marist poll that said only 42% of N.Y. voters would definitely reelect Senator Gillibrand, while 23% said they would absolutely not vote for her and 35% were unsure. That indicates that 58% either won’t vote for her or are unsure. Wadhams said that means “Gillibrand has not locked herself in with New York voters and this race is wide open.”
Wadhams praised the other two Republican Senate primary candidates, Congressman Bob Turner and Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos, but commented, “Wendy has something very special…the passion she brings and the depth of her knowledge, how articulate she is. And she is tough as nails.”
Wadhams, who is a longtime friend of Karl Rove and led Republican Senator John Thune to an upset victory over Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, praised Senate primary candidate Wendy Long and her work in creating the influential Judicial Confirmation Network.
Of the process leading up to the June 26th Republican primary, Wadhams said, “It doesn’t have to be like quicksand. It can be like a slingshot.”
Wadhams was addressing the Northeast Queens Republican Club Wednesday night, at their monthly meeting.
