Five Facts about Congressman Bob Turner

By Kevin J. Ryan, J.D.

Rep. Bob Turner is one of three candidates running for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination in a primary on June 26, 2012. Here are five quick facts about him:

1) Congressman Bob Turner was the first Republican since the 1920’s elected to represent the 9th District (of which he has been a lifelong resident), which makes him the only GOP Senate hopeful elected to Federal office.

2) Regarding the revised district map and his announcement to seek the Senate nomination, Turner said, “I ran for the House six months ago as a private citizen fed up with what is happening in Washington.  I could not sit and watch career politicians sink my nation deeper into economic crisis.  Brooklyn and Queens voters, of all political parties, graciously responded by sending me to Congress. It now appears that their district has been eliminated. There is serious work to be done to get this economy back on track, and I will not walk away from that work now. I will run for the Senate, and I will run to win.”

3) Before entering politics, Turner had a successful career in the private sector as a television executive and started two new companies.

4) He serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, and House Committee on Homeland Security.

5) You can read more about him on Facebook and on his website.
